WorkBase21 ("we", "us", "our") operates workbase21.co.za (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to all pages on the Site.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Your name and email address, when you contact us or subscribe to updates.
  • If you create a job seeker account: your username, email address and password (stored only in scrambled, "hashed" form — we can't see it).
  • Profile details you choose to add: location, qualification level and qualifications, experience level, skills, career goal and a short bio. All profile fields are optional.
  • Activity you save to your account: jobs you save or track (including their status, dates, reminders and any notes you write) and searches you save for job alerts.

Information collected automatically:

  • Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring URL, and pages visited.
  • Approximate location (derived from IP address).
  • Usage data such as time spent on pages and click patterns, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

We do not require account registration to browse listings, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information (such as ID numbers or banking details) through the Site. We don't ask for your CV, and applications happen on the employer's own website or email — not through WorkBase21.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve WorkBase21.
  • Respond to enquiries sent via our Contact page.
  • Provide account features: matching you with listings, recommendations, eligibility checks, career suggestions, your application tracker and job alerts. This matching is done by simple, automatic rules on our own server — your profile is not shared with employers or sold to anyone.
  • Send you account emails, such as password reset links. We don't send marketing emails.
  • Understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve content and navigation.
  • Serve advertising, including personalised advertising, through third-party providers such as Google AdSense.

3. Cookies and Advertising

WorkBase21 uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site and to support advertising.

We work with Google AdSense and other third-party advertising vendors. These vendors, including Google, use cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this and other websites.

  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
  • Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Note that blocking cookies may affect how the Site functions.

Emails: emails from WorkBase21 (such as password reset links and replies to Contact messages) are sent through Google's Gmail service, so your email address and the message pass through Google's servers.

4. Third-Party Links

Job, internship, learnership, and bursary listings may link to external application pages operated by employers, recruiters, or other third parties. We are not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices of those external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you're directed to before submitting personal information.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, after which it is securely deleted or anonymised.

Account information is kept until you delete your account. When you delete it, your account, profile, saved and tracked jobs, notes and saved searches are permanently removed from our live database straight away.

6. Your Rights

If you are located in South Africa, you have rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), including the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of your personal information.
  • Object to the processing of your personal information.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your information has been mishandled.

If you have an account, you can do the most common of these yourself at any time from Account Settings: Download My Data gives you a copy of everything stored about your account, Edit Profile lets you correct it, and Delete My Account removes it permanently.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we handle. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

WorkBase21 is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent changes. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
