The Gauteng Department of Health is hiring 16 Laundry Worker Level 2 staff at Chris Hani Baragwanath Laundry.

Minimum requirements

• Adult Education and Training (AET) Level 4 or equivalent (Grade 10)
• No experience required
• Basic knowledge of Batho Pele Principles, the Patients’ Rights Charter, Occupational Health and Safety, the Six Priorities and National Core Standards
• Ability to work under pressure, independently and in a team
• Good written and verbal communication
• Planning and organising skills
• Interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with internal and external stakeholders at different levels
• Tact, discretion, reliability and self-motivation
• Customer service skills
• Knowledge of Labour Relations processes and willingness to work in a labour-intensive environment
• Knowledge of laundry-related regulations and legislation
• Experience in a similar environment or health facility is an advantage

Duties

• Collect and receive soiled linen from health institutions
• Sort soiled linen by category and prepare it for washing
• Prepare items for ironing, pressing and folding
• Move ironed linen and check finished items for quality
• Sign the attendance register on arrival and departure
• Wear the prescribed uniform and name tag / laundry identification daily
• Follow the code of conduct, timekeeping rules and conditions of employment
• Support managers with general laundry work and help deliver an effective laundry service
• Work overtime when required; shift work is compulsory
• Carry out lawful and reasonable instructions from supervisors
• Keep the workplace clean
• Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Meet deadlines and do other duties allocated by the supervisor
• Attend approved meetings, workshops and training
• Take part in continuous training and the Performance Management and Development System (contracting, quarterly reviews and final assessment)
